The Motivation
Jamie Puterbaugh, one of the master instructors at Kip Puterbaugh's legendary Aviara Golf Academy (and Kip's son), was looking to upgrade the hitting surface in the academy's TaylorMade Aviara Performance Center fitting bay. With performance as a critical factor for integrating with its Foresight Sports ball tracking technology, the academy also wanted a practice environment that was ultra-durable, looked great, allowed for capture of putting data, and kept users from hurting their joints. Jamie knew about Fiberbuilt's reputation for addressing all of these needs, and worked with our design team to create the ideal mat solution. We collaborated to design a custom Performance Turf Series Combo Mat (which includes both hitting and putting surfaces) that extends wall-to-wall for an incredibly clean look. We included a border of fringe turf to complete the aesthetic and help define the space. And they love that our component-based system allows them to only switch out the hitting turf section once it (eventually) shows wear.
